Hyatt Centric The Loop
Chicago, IL USA

The world-renowned hotel brand sought to create a brand new concept in the heart of Chicago’s bustling Loop neighborhood. Housed in a historic landmark built in the early 1920s, Hyatt sought to develop a boutique style concept that would pay homage to the city in several imaginative ways. Gary Lee Partners was enlisted to style the interiors to reflect the building’s historical character while creating an energetic, exciting space for modern travelers.

GLP designed two different types of suites in addition to the hotel’s public areas, conference center, lobby and club lounge. Our firm set the tone for the project’s overall design, which included modern, open and airy guestrooms with a floating, wall-mounted closet concept. To embody the Centric brand, which encourages guests to explore their destination city, GLP designed an art concept that emphasized aquatic elements to invite guests to nearby Lake Michigan.

Several design elements were incorporated to preserve the historic nature of the building, such as the Loop’s historical cow path re-imagined as a walkway to the rooftop, and a joint initiative with the National Parks Service to preserve 1.5 floors’ worth of historic millwork.
